Orange is the New Black Season 2: Teens Behind Bars

A Benefit for Second Chance

We invite you to join Second Chance and attend their second annual benefit, Orange is the New Black: Teens Behind Bars on May 20th from 6:30 – 9:30 pm at Qualcomm Hall in Sorrento Valley. This year, Second Chance will present stories about troubled youth and the impactful Second Chance programs that help them overcome neglect, abuse, addiction and other barriers to achieving self-sufficiency.

Teens Behind Bars features keynote speaker Mitchell S. Jackson. Jackson, an acclaimed author and filmmaker, grew up in Northeast Portland during the crime-addled 1990s, and at age 19 he found himself in prison. His debut novel, The Residue Years, has already been made into a feature film. A true survivor with a powerful gift for words, Jackson now teaches writing at NYU and Columbia. Also appearing will be motivational speaker and "rapping dad" Derek Clark, inspiring author of Never Limit Your Life and the critically acclaimed series I Will Never Give Up.

Second Chance is dedicated to helping members of the San Diego community who have struggled with incarceration, addiction, homelessness, a family history of criminal behavior or gang involvement and giving them a second chance to have a more successful future and become positive contributors to society. The Orange is the New Black: Teens Behind Bars event is an amazing opportunity to give back your support as Second Chance touches the lives of others in need. The event is also an opportunity to educate any young family members or loved ones in your life that might be going down a dark road, and need an eye-opening experience that sets them back on a better path.

All proceeds from the event will enable Second Chance to continue its ongoing work to support youth and adults who are working toward self-sufficiency and a positive future. All money raised at the benefit will help provide stable, year-round funding for development programs for disadvantaged youth, job readiness training, job placement services, sober-living housing and behavioral health treatment.
